Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long do the Rambles last?
Each Ramble is designed to last 2 hours. Length of time may be extended by 15 or 20 minutes depending on number of questions asked, speed of travel, or client requests.
2. Do you talk about anything other than building styles?
YES! I use architecture as the basis to discuss not only why the buildings look the way they do but how they relate to the people and events that shaped Savannah's history. Nothing can give you an understanding of Savannah like knowledge of her architecture. Other Savannah discussion topics may include, but are not limited to:
• Noted Citizens
• City planning
• Freemasons
• Ethnic Groups
(Jews, African-Americans, Irish, etc.)
• Historic preservation
• and much more
3. Can I ask questions?
Questions are encouraged. This is your Ramble and I want you to get the most out of it.
4. What should I wear?
Comfort is all important! Walking shorts are suggested from May through September and walking or athletic shoes are suggested on all Rambles. Savannah is an old city and uneven brick pavers make high heels an extremely poor choice of footwear on all Rambles.
5. What if it rains?
If you don't like the weather, then you are free to reschedule, otherwise, I am willing to go if you are. Please note that during the summer months I recommend that Rambles be scheduled in the early part of the day in order to avoid the afternoon heat and humidity as well as the frequent late afternoon showers.
6. Will you cancel the Ramble if only two people make reservations for that time slot?
NO! Once you make the reservation the Ramble is on unless you cancel it, even if there is only one person. In the event of an emergency I will always attempt to notify anyone with reservations at the earliest possible moment.
7. Is there plenty of parking nearby?
Parking can be tight. There are two city parking decks and one private deck within a block of Johnson Square. The most reliable and less pricey tends to be the Bryan Street Parking Deck located at E. Bryan & Drayton, with entrances on Drayton Street and Abercorn Street. Street parking is free on holidays, weekends, and after 5:30pm during the week.
8. Should I bring a camera?
Absolutely! Savannah is extremely picturesque. Pictures are encouraged and your guide suggests allowing him to take at least one picture of your party at a place of your choosing so that everyone appears in at least one shot.
9. Can our dog come along?
Dogs are welcome guests on all Rambles that don't involve going into a house museum. However, you must keep Fido on a leash at all times and you must also carry plastic waste bags to comply with city ordinances. There are several pet waste receptacles throughout the Landmark Historic District.
